Climate Risk and Adaptation

This project followed the Natural Capital Assessment and Strategy we undertook previously for CCE’s Rural Portfolio. Together with 3Keel we modelled climate change risk scenarios in relation to various UK regions/asset types: Fenland arable; Chichester strategic land; Southwest cereals; Northwest dairy; and South Scotland forestry. Working with the CCE property team we assessed four major climate risks in the five regions: water stress; inland flooding; sea level rise; and high winds. Our report identified the most significant risks, their potential impacts, and priority adaptations such as changes in land management and land use, and investment in hard and soft infrastructure. Suggested recommendations included agricultural resilience strategies such as regenerative farming for water stress and disease, improved water storage, and strategic design to mitigate the climate risks.
