The overall aim of the project was to provide verified information on the costs of environmental land management (including woodland) to support CLA member decisions about entering existing agri-environment schemes, future schemes and other private sector environmental markets in England and Wales; and to support CLA’s work with Defra/WG to inform policy design and payment rates. The initial phase of the project developed a database of full costs of delivery of different farming and forestry standards, and key environmental land management options. The project involved collating information for environmental land management costings relevant to each of these options, drawing on various budgetary and survey data sources; and developing an Excel-based tool and database to accommodate the relevant cost data and analyse costings for specific standards/options. The tool was tested with members and guidance provided. There is significant scope to expand and develop the tool in future.
