The aim of the project was to provide recommendations to the Scottish Government to encourage small-scale planting of (native) trees on farms. The project approach focused on identifying tree planting systems and options that would most likely be taken up by farmers and be most beneficial in terms of supporting farm businesses as well as nature and climate. The approach included: identification of options through a review of literature and evidence, an online workshop and interviews; development of technical specifications and costings; assessment of opportunities for integration, payment rates and structures, metrics and targets, and reporting.
