LIFEquake is an EU LIFE-funded project, supported by the Welsh Government, restoring peatlands, quaking bogs and associated wetlands to favourable conservation status across seven Welsh sites. Cumulus was commissioned to assess LIFEquake’s socio-economic impact at Crymlyn Bog, a 300ha site near Swansea where much of its activity, spending and community engagement is focused. The work comprised a methodology report, a 2023 baseline/Year 2 report, project-team reviews in 2024 and 2025, and a final Year 5 assessment in 2026. It analysed NRW employment, expenditure and other data; assessed local and regional staff and non-staff spending; calculated direct, indirect and induced GVA and employment impacts using appropriate multipliers; and conducted baseline and Year 5 online surveys.
