The aim of this project was to obtain a better understanding of the social and economic value that a UNESCO Biosphere designation could bring to the Fens. The report explains how a Biosphere designation can bring such value to the Fens, and enable the area to become a leader in sustainable growth and development. It shows how a Biosphere can help Local Authorities achieve their ambitions, by facilitating good, sustainable and inclusive growth. The report draws on evidence from other Biospheres, local authority strategies and plans, and socio-economic data. This work was to play an important role in building an economic case to support an application to achieve UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation for the Fens.
