Sustainable farming gross margin calculator NEIRF

This project successfully delivered a practical sustainable farming gross margin tool while also generating important insights into how it should be used in practice. Developed by Cumulus Consultants with Soil Association Exchange – and funded by the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF) – the Excel-based calculator helps farmers and advisers compare current farming practices with more sustainable alternatives by combining gross margin analysis with public and private funding schemes. Built and refined using real farm data and extensive stakeholder workshops, the tool is regarded as accurate and valuable to support informed decision‑making during a period of significant change as direct payments are phased out and funding options become more complex.
